Blairmore

Details

Client :  David and Iona Drummond-Moray

Installation Date :  December 2007

Boiler :  Herz 150kW Three Phase Woodchip Boiler

Project Cost :  £80,000

Estimated Savings :  Average monthly heating bill for 3 units £160 pcm

The Vision :  Life for the Drummond-Moray familiy revolves around their horses. They bought  Blairmore Farm near Crieff with its spacious stables and many acres for their animals and started an ambitious development to create 2 4 star holiday lets and a new farmhouse as well as upgrade the stable accommodation. This is an on-going project and a real labour of love. They chose a woodfuel heating system motivated both by a desire to keep heating costs down and a sizeable grant which Jamie Reith obtained for them from the Forestry Commission Scottish Biomass Support Scheme - now closed.

Making it Happen :  In addition to securing the grant funding on behalf of the client Reith Partners also;

 - commissioned a specialist consultant to size the appropriate boiler and layout for heating multiple properties

- worked closely with the civils contractor to custom build an underground store and plant room

- managed the complete installation and commissioning including provision of a central control panel

- provides on-going fuel supply and technical support

  “The system does a great job and pumps the heat out. As our project is on-going it hasn’t reached it’s maximum heat load yet but it is relatively easy to add the additional units as and when we are ready”

“ We are lucky to have Jamie nearby as the system is technically very advanced and his support and that of his preferred electrical contractor, Mike Henderson, is much appreciated.

David’s Tips

 “If you don’t have 3 phase power consider having it installed as it is costly to run an inverter”

“Putting the chip-store underground is one of the best things we did – it makes fuel delivery so easy”

“Ask lots of questions and make sure you have contingency in your budget as the services, rather than the boiler itself, can be costly and depend so much on the system design and layout of your property”
