The Vision :  In order to keep their stunning 16th Century home warm, oil consumption had reached an unsustainable level.  Demonstrating exemplary forsight and neighbourliness, Mr and Mrs Thomson were keen to undertake a biomass installation that would achieve a cost saving in their heating bills, significantly reduce their carbon emissions and enable them to utilise their own timber.

Making it Happen :  With the project first being discussed in 2008, after much consideration and careful planning, the modification of an existing outbuilding to house the boiler and fuelstore began in summer 2010.  A major part of the delay was caused by hold-ups in securing SRDP funding.  The 90kW boiler was sized to enable heat to be sent to the main house and the neighbours house.  Each property has a seperate heat meter to record heat-use.  Reith Partners were involved throughout the design and build and now provide regular contract chipping services together with on-going support and technical advice.
